QSA/KSA/BWM - 19/11 Bellerby
The Boer War/WW1 camnpaign group of three issued to Edward Bellerby who served in the Imperial forces in South Africa and with the Samoan Relief Force with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
Edward Bellerby was born in Yorkshire in 1868, son of John and Margaret Bellerby (née Graham). He was working as a farmer at Nether Poppleton in North Yorkshire when he enlisted in the 9th Company, 3rd Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry on 4th January 1900. He served in South Africa from February 1900. In January he was appointed to a commission in the Army Service Corps, with whom he served until July 1902. For this service he was awarded the QSA with clasps Cape Colony, Transvaal, Orange Free State, King's South Africa Medal with clasps South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902.
Bellerby came to New Zealand after the war, settling with his brother at Te Karaka near Gisborne, where he farmed. He enlisted the Samoan Relief Force, NZEF in January 1915 and served over three years on duty on the islands. After the war Bellerby settled in Auckland. He married Ruth Ellison in 1942, but passed away the following year, on 4th October 1943.
