Jackson returned to New Zealand in July 1944, and in April 1945 embarked for a third time, bound for the Middle East where he served in Egypt, engaged in Prisoner of War escort duties. Jackson returned to New Zealand and was discharged in October 1945. He returned to his job in Dunedin and joined the Southern Military District Band. In 1955 he applied for the Efficiency Medal, which was duly awarded in 1956 (NZAO 1956/516 refers). It appears Edward Jackson died circa 2014.
