NZEF Trio - 23/1428 Lawlor - KiA 1916
The 1914/15 Star trio issued to the next-of-kin of 23/1428 Thomas Henry Lorraine Lawlor, who died of wounds received in action in France in August 1916.
Thomas Lawlor was born 26th February 1891 at Te Aroha, New Zealand. Son of Theodore Minet Haultain and Kate Parnell Lawlor (née Cleeve). At the time of his enlistment in the NZEF in 1915 Thomas was working as a stock agent in Hastings. He embarked with 2nd Reinforcements, 1st Battalion, New Zealand Rifle Brigade in October 1915. In May 1916 he was attached to the Medium Trench Mortar Battery and deployed to France. On 1st August he suffererd a gunshot wound to his spine. He died 4 days later from his wounds and is buried in Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck.

The group comes with copies of letters written to his parents after his death, describing the days leading up his death.
