The NZEF pair and Memorial Plaque issued to 35829 Trooper Frederick Thompson Connell, who served in the campaign in Palestine in 1918 and died after discharge in New Zealand from the effects of Malaria contracted on active service.

Frederick Connell was born in Wellington on 1st October 1894, son of John and Margaret Connell. He embarked with the 29th NZMR Reinforcements and served with 8th (South Canterbury) Squadron, Canterbury Mounted Rifles during the campaign in Palestine in 1918. He died on 24th January 1922 of myocarditis brought on by the effects of malaria he had been infected with during his active service. With his death adjudged to me as a result of war service, his next of kin was able to claim the issue of the Memorial Plaque, which was issued in 1930.

Both medals are correctly impressed 35829 TPR. F.T. CONNELL. N.Z.E.F. and the Memorial Plaque is correctly embossed FREDERICK THOMPSON CONNELL.
