The British War Medal/Victory Medal pair issued to 48405 Henry William Jennings, who served with 1st (Canterbury) Company, 1st Battalion, Canterbury Infantry Regiment 1917-18.
Henry Jennings was born 4th September 1890 at Christchurch, New Zealand. He had tried to enlist earlier in the war, but was rejected on medical groups. In January 1917 he was succesful in passing his medical, and he attested for service on 31st of that month. Henry served on the Western Front with 1st (Canterbury) Company, 1st Battalion, Canterbury Infantry Regiment from mid-November 1917, serving in the field during the cold winter of 1917-18. In late January 1918 he was admitted to hospital and later diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and pleurisy and classed as medically unfit for further service. Henry returned to New Zealand and was discharged in December 1918. He was issued Silver War Badge NZ12703. Henry Jennings died at Auckland on 26th May 1975.
