The 1914/15 Star trio and NZ Territorial Service Medal awarded to 11/1835 David Hogg McGorrery who served in Egypt and during the desert campaign with the Wellington Mounted Rifles.
David McGorrery was born 7th December 1892 at Wanganui, New Zealand. Son of Edmund Marston and Sarah Coates McGorrery (née Hogg). He has prewar service with the Wairoa Mounted Rifles and Queen Alexandra's (Wellington West Coast) Mounted Rifles and at the time of his enlistment in the NZEF he was working as a grocer's assistant in Waverley.
McGorrery embarked with the 7th Reinforcements and saw extensive service during the desert campaign in Egypt and Palestine. He had periods in hosptial, and by the end of the war the rugged conditions under which the men of the NZ Mounted Rifle Brigade served saw McGorrery contract malaria. He was discharged in 1919 as a result of this medical condition. In 1944 he applied for the award of the NZ Territorial Service Medal, and this was duly awarded per Army Order 1944/97. McGorrery died at Wanganui on 19th December 1950.
