The Naval General Service Medal w/clasp NILE awarded to Lewis Hallum, who served during the Battle of the Nile in 1798 on board HMS Defence.

The Medal: “Lewis Hallow”, unique name, claimed the NGS 1793-1840, and was issued with one bar, Nile, claim GP (No.4694). Lewis’ surname by baptism and through his service was clearly “Hallum”. It however suffered a number of mis-transcriptions in the process of the issuance of his NGS starting with ADM 171-1.

ADM 171-8 name “Hallon, Lewis”

List of Greenwich issued NGS “Hallow, Lewis, 1835, 4694, 1, A.B., Defence, Nile 1798, as Hallon.”
