$800.00Price
  • The Afghanistan Medal (1881) with clasp Kandahar issued to 1100 William Coleman, 66th Foot.

Coleman was assigned to one of the companies detached from the 66th Foot to strengthen the garrison at Kelat-i-Ghilzai in April 1880, thus was not present at the Battle of Maiwand in July during which his regiment was heavily defeated, with most of their men being killed. Following the defeat at Maiwand, Coleman and the men of his detachment joined General Robert's column and marched to relieve the garrison at Kandahar. He will have fought during the Battle of Kandahar and is entitled to the Kabul to Kandahar Star. Coleman is listed as having died (date unknown), this most likely occuring at Kandahar where there was a number of casualties due to disease.

The medal is correctly engraved 1100 PTE W. COLEMAN. 66th FOOT.
