  • The 1914/15 Star and Victory Medal issued to the next-of-kin of 8/360 Alexander Duncan, who was killed in action on Chunuk Bair, 8th August 1915 whilst serving with 8th (Southland) Company.

     

    Alexander Duncan was born 10th January 1889 at Invercargill, New Zealand. Son of Alexander and Agnes Clara Duncan. At the time of his enlistment in the NZEF in August 1914, Duncan was working as a labourer at Lora Gorge. He embarked with the Main Bodym NZEF and served on Gallipoli from the landing on 25th April 1915. Alexander Duncan was killed in action 8th August 1915 during the Battle of Chunuk Bair. He was initially reported missing, but a subsequent Court of Enquiry determined he had been killed on the 8th. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Chunuk Bair (New Zealand) Memorial.
