  • The scarce 1914/15 Star Trio issued to the next-of-kin of William James Gibb, who was killed in action during the landing on Gallipoli, 25th April 1915, whilst serving with the Auckland Battalion.


    William Gibb was born 23rd October 1884 at Auckland, New Zealand. Son of David Newman and Mary Ann Gibb (née Mulcahy). He was educated at Thames, and at the time of his enlistment in October 1914, he was working in Taumarunui as a miner. William embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements, Auckland Infantry Battalion, landing in Egypt in January 1915. William, serving with 15th (North Auckland) Company, landed on Gallipoli on the morning of 25th April 1915, and at some stage that fateful day, he was killed in action. He has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Lone Pine Memorial.
